Reading the dashboard
The dashboard keeps everything on one page: five key numbers, a trend chart, a short summary and the top lists. You can try all of it in the live demo.
Pick a period
Choose Today, 7d, 30d, This month or 12m at the top. Every number is compared with the period of the same length just before it, so 30d compares the last 30 days with the 30 days before that. Days follow the timezone you set for the site.
The key numbers
| Metric | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Visitors | Unique visitors per day, added up over the period. The anonymous ID resets daily, so someone who visits on three days counts as three. |
| Pageviews | Every page loaded, including route changes in single-page apps. |
| Visits | Sessions: a series of pageviews by the same visitor in one sitting. |
| Bounce rate | Share of visits that saw only one page. |
| Visit duration | Average length of a visit, from the first to the last pageview. |
Green means the change is good for you. For bounce rate, a drop is green.
The top lists
- Top pages: the most visited pages. Switch to Entry pages to see where visits start.
- Sources: referring sites (Google, Facebook, other sites) or Direct when there is no referrer. Switch to Medium or Campaign to see your UTM tags.
- Countries: based on the visitor's network location. The IP address is used for this and then discarded.
- Devices: desktop, mobile and tablet. Switch to Browser or OS for more detail.
Each list shows the top six. Click View all to see the rest.
Filter everything
Click any row in a list, for example Sweden or Google, to filter the whole dashboard to those visitors. You can also use Add filter to pick a page, entry page, source, UTM tag, country, device, browser or OS. Filters stack, so Country is Norway and Source is Google shows Norwegian visitors from Google. Filters live in the URL, so you can bookmark or share a filtered view with your team.
Notes on the chart
Click Add note under the visitors chart to mark a day, for example Sent newsletter or Launched new pricing. Notes show as green markers on the chart, so you can see later what caused a spike.
Events and funnels
- Events lists every custom and automatic event, with a breakdown of the props sent along, for example signups by plan or downloads by file.
- Funnels show how many visitors go through a set of steps in order, such as Home → Pricing → signup, and where they drop off. Steps can be pages (end with
*to match everything under a path) or events. Up to five steps, completed on the same day, because the anonymous visitor ID resets daily.
Track campaigns with UTM tags
Add utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign to links you share, for example ?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=autumn-sale. Varde also stores utm_content and utm_term.
Export your data
Click Export CSV on the overview to download the selected period. The file has the daily numbers, every top list and your goals, ready for Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers.
Share a read-only view
Open Share & embed to get a public link to a read-only overview. Anyone with the link sees the key numbers, the chart, top pages and sources, but not goals, filters or AI insights. Turn the link off to revoke access. Share links are on the Pro plan.
Embed a chart on your site
The same dialog gives you an iframe snippet that shows a live visitors chart on any page. Add &theme=dark for dark backgrounds and &period=7d to change the period. Turning off the share link also turns off the embed.
Invite your team
Under Team, invite people by email as Admin (can change settings and goals) or Viewer (can only see the dashboard).
